History: Native to Europe and western Asia, asparagus has been cultivated for thousands of years with an Egyptian frieze from 3000 BCE depicting it as an offering. This particular variety, Spartacus F-1, was developed in the Netherlands starting in 2007 with the goal of creating a hybrid male variety with good disease resistance, tolerance to warm summers and cold winters, and good eating quality. It was patented in 2017.
Why We Grow It: Asparagus is a favourite perennial spring vegetable and this particular variety is great for organic growing due to its good disease resistance! It is ready early and produces stalks of uniform thickness and straightness.
