History: Orange Energy sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) was developed in a breeding program headed by H.J. Albrecht in Berlin which began in 1971. Using plants growing around the Baltic Sea, he created several varieties adapted to both coastal and continental climates that are now used for juice production in Germany. Orange Energy, which was introduced in 1980  and released in 2005, stands out for its exceptionally large berries, high vitamin content, and heavy crops.

Why We Grow It: The berries are flavourful, tropical and quite tart. It's a later season variety, and when ripe the whole bush turns orange with it's incredible load of fruit. The bush reaches 6-8 feet at maturity, though can be pruned smaller.
