Golden Pearmain Apple

Golden Pearmain Apple

History: Golden Pearmain was first discovered in North Carolina in 1755 and is believed to be one of the apples grown by Thomas Jefferson in his garden at his plantation, Monticello. This variety had nearly disappeared by the early 1900s but thanks to a Dewitt Souther, who took cuttings from an old tree on his father's property, this excellent variety is still with us.

Why We Grow It: Golden Pearmain produce a flattish green fruit that colours to red on the side that faces the sun. This crisp, juicy apple has a hint of tartness and is great when eaten fresh. It can also be used to make a nice cider and is suitable for both cooking and baking since the apple holds its shape well.
