Abate Fetel Pear
History: Abate Fetel or Abbé Fetel (translated as Abbot Fetel from Italian and French respectively) was created by and named after Abbot Fetel. In 1865, while serving as a priest in France, he began crossbreeding local pear varieties and sometime after 1885 he successfully created this unusual looking pear. To this day they remain one of the most popular pear varieties in Italy and are grown commercially in several other countries such as Argentina, South Africa, and the western US.
Why We Grow It: It is easy to see why this variety remains so popular today! Abate Fetel produces unusually long, slender fruits that are crisp with a sweet, rich flavour. It is best eaten when it is just starting to soften. Aside from being a great fresh-eating pear, it is also excellent for baking.

Shipping: Every year we ship thousands of trees across Canada (except BC due to CFIA regulations). We carefully bag roots in damp sawdust, then box them and send them out via courrier. CLICK HERE to see our shipping policy.
Pick-up: We also have thousands of trees picked up from our nursery each year. The pick-up options is free, though you must wait until you have been emailed a confirmation that your order is ready to pick up, which will have further information such as hours, locations, etc. We really appreciate if you can make an appointment to pick up, then we can be as organized as possible during our busy season.
