The attractive fruit is striped and mottled red over light green. It was formerly quite popular in Victorian England as well as the US and Russia. The flesh is soft and fruit does not keep long but is excellent for pies or applesauce. Very hardy and scab resistant. Originated in the early 1700’s, in Russia.
