History: This is an old perry pear that has been known since the 1800s in Austria and Northern Switzerland. It was first recorded in 1854 and the name Gelbmostler means "yellow most pear."

Why We Grow It: Although the fruit doesn't keep well, it is prized for its high disease resistance, juiciness, and astringent flavour. The skin is greenish-yellow, speckled with russet spots. It has a sugar content of 10-11% by weight.

Canadian Hardiness Zone: 5

Soil Preference: Sandy loam, loam, clay loam. Prefers average to moist conditions with well-drained soils, avoid planting anywhere that floods for more than two weeks in the spring. 

Growth Habits and Disease Resistance: High disease resistance. 

Sun/Shade: Full sun (approx. 8-10 hours of sun daily)

Pollination: Requires a pollinator of a different pear variety (European or Asian) that blooms around the same time  

Flowering Time: Middle

Ripens: Late September

Storage: Does not keep well
