A famous heritage American variety, supposedly Thomas Jefferson’s favourite apple, and a parent of the Jonathan variety. From Esopus, Ulster County, NY, pre-1790. The flavour is complex with high acid content. The fruit is medium sized and an attractive bright red. Keeps, with good flavour, until March.
