History: Little is known about this pear in the Western world aside from the fact it came from China. Seuri is possibly the Japanese version of the Chinese name Se Li (translated as 'red pear' from Mandarin).

Why We Grow It: Seuri has yellow-brown skin and the flesh is sweet yet slightly tart with a hint of apricot. It is considered one of the most flavourful of the Asian pears. The tree grows well and has heavy crops.

Canadian Hardiness Zone: 5

Soil Preference: Sandy loam, loam, clay loam. Prefers average to moist conditions with well-drained soils, avoid planting anywhere that floods for more than two weeks in the spring.

Growth Habits and Disease Resistance: Vigorous, has heavy crops. Somewhat resistant to mildew and fireblight.

Sun/Shade: Full sun (approx. 8-10 hours of sun daily)

Pollination: Requires a pollinator of a different pear variety (European or Asian) that blooms around the same time. Ya Li is an excellent pollination partner.

Flowering Time: Early

Ripens: Late October

Storage: Keeps until November when stored in cold storage
