This candle is a lovely nod to historical times when bee skeps were given to Dutch newlyweds, who paraded the skep through town in celebration. Keeping bees in skeps is a method from days of old, no longer in use due to the modern-day pests, such as varroa mites, that can overtake a hive. Skeps were made from grasses wound and tied into a domed shape.

Meet the Maker!

Jodi is Steph's older sister (on the right) and the owner, beekeeper and candlemaker of Huckleberry Hives. She keeps 30-75 beehives, including some at Silver Creek Nursery in one of the test orchards. She also works part-time at Silver Creek Nursery, so you might spot her in various photos around the website or meet her at the nursery!
